To celebrate the release of ‘von konstruktiver klarheit. max bill und seine zeit 1940–1952’ please join us for a conversation and book signing with author Angela Thomas and historian Prof. Ita Heinze-Greenberg at Kunsthaus Zürich.

About Angela Thomas
Angela Thomas was the co-founder and editor of ‘kassandra,’ the first German-language feminist magazine for the visual arts (Berlin and Zurich, 1977/78). She met Max Bill in 1974 and married him in 1991. For twenty years she kept notes on their shared conversations, experiences and travels, as well as the exhibitions they curated together. After Max Bill’s death, she founded the max bill georges vantongerloo foundation, which she still chairs as president. In 1998 Angela Thomas married the director Erich Schmid; they live together in Max Bill’s house and studio in Zumikon near Zurich and collaborated on the film ‘Max Bill—das absolute Augenmass’ (2008).

About Prof. Ita Heinze-Greenberg
Ita Heinze-Greenberg is an architectural historian and professor emerita of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zürich, where she was assigned to the Institute for the History and Theory of Architecture (gta) from 2012 to 2019. She earned her doctorate from the University of Bonn with a thesis on Erich Mendelsohn’s buildings in Mandate Palestine. She then held research and teaching positions at various institutions, including the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning at the Technion in Haifa (1984-1998), the Bezalel Academy in Jerusalem (1993), the University of Augsburg (1999), the Delft University of Technology (2004-2005) and the Technical University of Munich (2008-2012). Her numerous publications concentrate on 19th and 20th Century architecture with foci on nation building, identity construction and migration studies. Her latest book—published in 2023—deals with the immigration of German-Jewish artists, architects and writers to Palestine between 1933 and 1945.
