Eva Hesse: Diaries

Eva Hesse’s diaries from 1955 to 1970 served as a tool for the artist to analyze her experience of the world. They detail her refuge in books, including citations from Simone de Beauvoir or F. Scott Fitzgerald, and are a phenomenal glimpse into her traumas and delight in the fluctuating process of making art.

About Zurich, Bahnhofstrasse 1

Hauser & Wirth launched the gallery’s new space at Bahnhofstrasse 1 with an exhibition of works by Hans Arp titled ‘Arp: Art is a Fruit’, in Zurich’s historic central cultural district. Helmed by Partner and Executive Director, James Koch, the space will focus on exhibitions by the 35 artists’ estates represented by the gallery and will be a headquarters for Hauser & Wirth’s increasing private sales activity.

Centrally located close to Lake Zurich and adjacent to the landmark Baur au Lac hotel, the conversion of the ground floor at Bahnhofstrasse 1 into a gallery space is being overseen by Swiss architectural practice, Schmidlin Architekten. The floor to ceiling windows of the ground floor gallery space create a strong street presence on the legendary Bahnhofstrasse. The new venue complements Hauser & Wirth’s existing galleries in Switzerland in Zurich, St. Moritz and Gstaad and the Hauser & Wirth Publishers’ HQ. In each location, the goal is to create strong, well-proportioned spaces that place the art on view at the forefront of the experience.
