London Gallery Weekend: Literary Evening

Friday 5 June
5.30 – 7.30 pm
Register

In celebration of London Gallery Weekend and the launch of Ursula Magazine Issue 17, join us for an evening of readings and conversation inspired by the exhibitions ‘Roni Horn. Seizure of Hope’ and ‘Francis Picabia. Expanding Horizons’ at Hauser & Wirth London.

Hosted by art historian, critic and broadcaster Ben Luke, the gathering brings together artists, poets, writers and creatives for readings drawn from or inspired by the two exhibitions. Spanning the historic to the contemporary— both artists are united by a shared commitment to literary or poetic output: Horn through her writings collected in ‘Island Zombie,’ composed during an extended period in Iceland; Picabia as a prolific author of Dada poetry.

Contributors include artist Tali Lennox, author and art historian Katy Hessel, artist Christopher Page, fashion designer and artist Rejina Pyo, and journalist Charlotte Jansen, among others.

The event will conclude with an open mic, where we welcome our audience to perform original work or read from a selection of writings available.

Taking place in the North Gallery, tickets are free but advance booking is required. Please note that seats will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis.

About ‘Roni Horn. Seizure of Hope’
For her first solo exhibition in London in a decade, Roni Horn presents never before exhibited works on paper from her new Seizure of Hope series, which explores Horn’s preoccupation with repetition and the utilization of the written word as a medium. Accompanying her drawings is one of her renowned glass sculptures; taking the form of a cube, the work is a rare example of Horn’s cast objects.

About ‘Francis Picabia. Expanding Horizons’
Francis Picabia (1879 – 1953) is one of the most influential and essential artists of the 20th Century. Organized in collaboration with the Comité Picabia, this wide-ranging overview covers five decades of creative output, from his early landscapes, Dada works and Transparencies through to his radical nudes, realist works made during World War II and textural abstract paintings created in his final years. Shedding light across every area of the artist’s practice, this exhibition highlights his fluid movement between figurative art and abstraction, affirming Picabia’s reputation as one of art history’s most ingenious shape shifters.

The exhibitions are on view through Saturday 1 August.

Photographs will be taken at this event for use on the Hauser & Wirth website, social media and in other marketing materials.
