Since its founding in 1992, Hauser & Wirth Publishers has been devoted to the presentation of unique, object-like books and a rich exchange of ideas between artists and scholars. For this Book and Printed Matter Lab at Hauser & Wirth Los Angeles, we are presenting the entirety of our backlist, which features monographs, artists’ books, exhibition catalogues, and collections of artists’ writings. Each publication seeks to encourage understanding about contemporary art, promoting discourse and appreciation by bringing new, sometimes overlooked, aspects of an artist’s creative practice into focus. Hauser & Wirth Publishers commissions original, in-depth essays and texts, and collaborates with esteemed book designers to realize each creative vision.
This presentation is an extension of our ‘Exploring the Archive’ project, which will include the forthcoming digitization of seminal titles, such as our first self-published book, ‘Nam June Paik: Jardin Illuminé’ and the now out-of-print and rare title, ‘Joan Mitchell: Leaving America, New York to Paris, 1958–1964,’ each of which is highlighted in its own display of multimedia and archival materials in this Book Lab.
