Join us to celebrate the opening of two new exhibitions at Make Hauser & Wirth Somerset: ‘Affinities’ featuring Helen Carnac and David Gates and ‘A Part of Us’ featuring Adam Buick and Anthony Bryant.
Tickets are free and include a welcome drink, but we recommend registering in advance.
About ‘Affinities’ ‘Affinities’ explores artist-makers Helen Carnac and David Gates’s relocation from London to Somerset and the works created during this transitional period. Both artist-makers are drawn to human interventions in the landscape – agricultural structures and infrastructure, as well as the folds and textures of worked land – sourcing material and visual imagery from their surroundings. Together, they are resituating their working practices among new surroundings. This exhibition features a collection of resource, research and contextualisation materials. As well as their individual works, Carnac and Gates will be showing a new body of works made together – their first for several years.
About ‘A Part of Us’ ‘A Part of Us’ explores artist-makers Adam Buick and Anthony Bryant’s innate affinity with their environment, continuous and indivisible from the process and outcome of making. Vessels in clay and wood echo land and sea with traces and patterns real and mapped, evoking both the inner landscape of thought and the outer sensory experience of place.
Both exhibitions are on view at Make Hauser & Wirth Somerset from Saturday 8 July – Saturday 9 September 2023.
