The Big Draw: Family Saturday

Hauser & Wirth Somerset invites families into the gallery for Family Saturdays on the first Saturday of every month. These free sessions offer families a unique experience of art, design and nature. This special Family Saturday, in collaboration with The Big Draw, invites children and their families to take part in drawing activities that provide a direct interpretation of this years festival theme: ‘A Climate of Change'. The Big Draw is the world’s biggest drawing festival with thousands of drawing activities connecting people of all ages with museums, outdoor spaces, artists, designers, illustrators – and each other. The Big Draw annually involves 1000+ organisers on seven continents, engaging around 400,000 people. For our Big Draw event we will run short sessions to set you off on your drawing challenge. Book in to collect all the resources and inspiration you need. The sessions are aimed at families with children aged 6 and over. Taking inspiration from the festival theme, 'A Climate of Change', we shall focus on the tree, as a vital component of our ecology system and a metaphor for life. The tree often appears in the work of the LA-based conceptual artist, esteemed CalArts educator, and recipient of the 2019 Edward MacDowell Medal,  Charles Gaines. His body of work engages formulas and systems that interrogate relationships between the objective and the subjective realms. Younger children are welcome and all must be supervised by parents / carers. This is a free event, however advanced booking is essential as there are limited places in each 30 minute session. Please note, on-site activities will adhere to government guidelines. Numbers are strictly managed via visitor bookings, so please book a space for every attendee (including adults and any infants).
