Live Throwing with Florian Gadsby

In a presentation from Make at Hauser & Wirth London, ceramicist Florian Gadsby will illustrate the creative process of his practice with an initial introduction to the technique of throwing. Gadsby will give a live throwing demonstration, allowing visitors the opportunity to experience his skills first-hand and gain a deeper insight into the methods he uses to create his functional wares and bespoke vessels. Florian Gadsby is a London based ceramicist. He has been making primarily functional ceramics for the past six years alongside individual one-off vessels and groups of pots. He uses a series of subtle glazes that have a complex, crystalline structure to complement the simple forms. He spent several years focusing on production throwing and learning to work at speed, while apprenticing with both Lisa Hammond MBE for three years and Ken Matsuzaki in Mashiko, Japan. His exhibition works have allowed him to explore a different approach, collections of considered vases together with one-off vessels adorned with linear markings have forced him to work at a slower pace and develop a new voice. Make is an extension of Hauser & Wirth Somerset, providing a unique platform for contemporary craft and the handmade object, showcasing work from the best emerging and established makers. Since its launch in 2019, the gallery has presented work by over 50 artist-makers, from across the UK, Europe and Asia. Make has a permanent gallery space in Bruton, Somerset, open from 10 am – 1 pm and 2 pm – 4pm from Wednesday to Saturday.
