Artist Talk: Lara Schnitger

Please join us for a talk with Lara Schnitger, who is featured in our current exhibition, ‘Revolution in the Making: Abstract Sculpture by Women, 1947 – 2016.’ Born in Haarlem, Netherlands, 1969, Schnitger is a Dutch-American sculptor whose works incorporate references to sexuality, fashion, and feminism to create a hybrid interplay between sculpture, space, and costume. Employing numerous techniques and materials, she transforms wood and fabric into formal sculptures and paintings. She has studied extensively, at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague, Netherlands (1987 – 1991); Academy of Performing Arts, Prague, Czech Republic (1991 – 1992); de Ateliers, Amsterdam, Netherlands (1992 – 1994), and the Center for Contemporary Art, CCA Kitakyushu, Japan (1999 – 2000). Recent solo exhibitions include SculptureCenter, New York NY in 2010, and FRAC Champagne-Ardenne, Reims, France in 2015. Schnitger lives and works in Los Angeles CA and Amsterdam, Netherlands.
