Art Work: An Insight into the Art World

Meet artists, curators and technicians to find out how they started their careers, including 2007 Turner Prize winner Mark Wallinger. Studying fine art at university may not necessarily mean that you will become an artist and many people worry about the uncertainty of an art degree. However, art education opens doors to a multitude of careers; the art world is made up of many specialists. Some roles within the art world you may never have heard of. It raises questions such as: • What does a practicing artist do? • What kinds of careers exist for those who study art? • Is postgraduate study necessary? • How will I make a living as an artist? • What are the most important things to learn from art education? This event is aimed at young people post 16 who are interested in finding out about career opportunities in art. They may attend with art teachers/ tutors/parents/alone.
