MA Study Day: The Role of the Curator

  • Wed 2 December 2015
  • 11.30 am – 2 pm

To celebrate Hauser & Wirth Somerset’s group exhibition ‘Qwaypurlake’, Associate Director Lucy MacDonald and Head of Education, Debbie Hillyerd will host a study day for MA Curatorial students, in association with the MA Curatorial Practice at Bath Spa University. ‘Qwaypurlake’ is a curated group exhibition, presenting a fictional reimagining of the Somerset landscape, drawing inspiration from the history of the area to construct an alternative reality. The exhibition brings together landscape photography, painting, sculpture, ceramics and film from a broad selection of established and emerging contemporary artists. Participating artists include: Hans Coper, Richard Deacon, Michael Dean, Elisabeth Frink and Peter Lanyon, Ben Rivers and Marie Toseland. The study day will encompass an introduction and insight into Hauser & Wirth as a commercial gallery, as well as a guided tour of the exhibitions and time to discuss the issues raised by a curated group show such as Qwaypurlake. The session will also explore Don McCullin’s solo exhibition ‘Conflict – People – Landscape’, drawing comparisons between the two exhibitions and offering an interesting starting point for discussion. If you are a post-graduate student studying a curatorial course you are welcome to attend. This is a free event, however advanced booking is recommended. To book a place please email celeste@hauserwirth.com or call +44 1749 81 4060.
