This November Hauser & Wirth Somerset, in collaboration with the Roth Bar and Grill, is delighted to launch ‘Open Source Salon’ – a discussion group for like-minded creatives and enthusiasts to meet monthly to catch up, exchange ideas and enjoy talks and presentations. Each salon session will consist of a specially invited speaker who will share their unique knowledge and experience on one of the four key themes at the heart of Hauser & Wirth Somerset – Art, Architecture, Landscape, Food – and touch upon our core beliefs: Community, Education and Conservation. For our inaugural event, we are thrilled to welcome the esteemed British art critic, historian, and avid cultural explorer Edward Lucie-Smith who will discuss the impact of technology on our understanding of and interaction with contemporary art. He will also investigate the effect of its connections to social change, and the rise of a ‘new technological society’ – where information and images are readily available and disseminated, arguing a shift in contemporary art appreciation – from hierarchical (exclusive) to lateral (among peers). Lucie-Smith will also talk about his collaboration with the online network Artlyst, a discussion group for the digital age, to demonstrate how such platforms are vital in supporting the access and enjoyment of art today.
