Summer Workshop: Botanical Printmaking

  • Sat 17 June 2017
  • 10 am – 4 pm

Join us for this one-day workshop, exploring and drawing from Oudolf Field, to produce unique botanical prints using a printing press. The day will begin with sketching in the garden at Hauser & Wirth Somerset, where we will be looking closely at the plants and flowers in bloom. Different drawing tasks will be set, to extend your drawing ability, looking at the abstract shapes as well as the detail in a selection of plants. Back in the Implement Shed participants will learn how to mono print with foraged wild plants collected from the woodlands nearby. The sketches from the garden will be used to mono print with, and layer on the botanical plant prints. A vibrant mix of colours will be available to use to produce intensely colourful prints. 10 – 11 am: Drawing tasks in the garden. 11am – 12 pm: Introduction to mono printing with plants and first tests. 12 – 1 pm: Lunch in the Roth Bar & Grill 1 – 3.30 pm: Mono print experiments with plants and sketches 3.30 – 4 pm: Chance to view all the prints produced from the group and discuss. The course will be led by Victoria Willmott, who is an illustrator and artist educator with a BA in Illustration from Camberwell College of Arts and an MA in Multi-disciplinary Printmaking at University of the West of England. Victoria creates illustrations and prints from narratives and observational sketches of people, nature and places. Her illustrations have been exhibited in group shows across London including Somerset House and Victoria & Albert Museum. Since moving to Bristol in 2015, Victoria has set up Bristol Print Collective to run pop up workshops and encourage all ages to discover the limitless possibilities of printmaking. Victoria has delivered workshops across Bristol in galleries and community centres including Arnolfini, Spike Island and Tobacco Factory. Ticket price is £90 and includes lunch in the Roth Bar & Grill.
