Sojourner Truth Parsons’s (b. 1984 Vancouver, Canada ; lives and works Brooklyn NY) paintings are personal yet fictional moments, driven by a desire to translate the psychological and the affective into visual form. Bodies, flora and fauna, and the city—the touchstones of daily existence—are anchoring forms in her practice; they are images that stand in for the emotional acuities and atmospheric intensities that occupy her time in the studio.
Solo exhibitions include: ‘Milk river,’ Various Small Fires, Seoul, South Korea (2020); ‘Sex and love with a psychologist,’ Foxy Production, New York NY (2020) and ‘Holding Your Dog At Night,’ Oakville Galleries, Oakville, Canada (2007).
Curated by Legacy Russell, Executive Director & Chief Curator of The Kitchen, ‘The New Bend’ is on view until 2 Apr 2022.
