‘Remember Nature’ Residency with Dartington Arts School returns to Somerset

From Monday 25 September – Friday 6 October, Hauser & Wirth Somerset will host a two-week residency for a second year with students from the Arts and Place MA course at Dartington Arts School. This year’s residents artists, Rosie May Jones and Liz Horn, will develop work responding to the theme of ‘Remember Nature,’ a project by artist and activist Gustav Metzger.

‘Now or Never’ Education Lab in Los Angeles

In celebration of Stefan Brüggemann’s first solo exhibition in Los Angeles this fall, the Education Lab ‘Now or Never’ will host a series of creative workshops throughout the duration of the exhibition in which to explore the themes of Brüggemann’s work. Visitors to the Education Lab will have access to films and a reading area with books about Brüggemann’s approach to artmaking that reflects on the paradoxes of contemporary society using language, cultural identity, and carefully chosen materials. Participants are encouraged to engage with his themes of text and language, while collaborating with other local arts educators, artists, writers and poets.

Growing Our Partnership With PILAglobal

Hauser & Wirth has been a key supporter of Los Angeles-based, international non-profit, PILAglobal, over the past two years since the organization was chosen as the charitable partner for two of the gallery’s global Learning initiatives: Education Lab Menorca 2021 and Education Lab Los Angeles 2022. Hauser & Wirth has now pledged to grow its partnership with PILAglobal through a new commitment that will raise $150,000 for the organization through 2025.

Jenny Holzer Collaborates With Young Creatives From Inner-City Arts, Los Angeles

On the occasion of renowned American artist Jenny Holzer’s exhibition ‘READY FOR YOU WHEN YOU ARE’ on view in West Hollywood and part of Hauser & Wirth’s ongoing learning initiatives, the artist collaborated with Inner-City Arts, an organization investing in the youth of Los Angeles by providing them access to the arts.

The International Curatorial Residency Returns to Somerset

Following a series of three successful International Curatorial Residencies from 2017 – 2019, we are delighted to welcome a new group of global participants to the UK for the 2023 program from 10 – 15 September 2023. The week-long residency unites influential leaders in the field of artist residencies, drawing from private, public and artist-founded models. The residency program concludes with a public symposium on Friday 15 September, hosted at Hauser & Wirth Somerset and moderated by Hauser & Wirth Senior Curatorial Director Kate Fowle. The symposium will act as a forum for reflection and further dialogue on a broader scale. This event is open to all and donations will support our local charitable partner for 2023 – 2024.

The Education Lab Returns to Menorca

This summer, the Education Lab provides a dedicated learning space which addresses Christina Quarles’ approach to the body and language, created in collaboration with 19 students from CREAE Espacio Creativo, a non-formal arts school in Mahon for drawing, painting and ceramics.

Artists-in-Residence in Menorca

Curated by Oriol Fontdevila, the group exhibition ‘After the Mediterranean’ mobilizes collective narratives around the human and ecological crises that impact the region. Through their works, the artists introduce alternative accounts to those narratives—including a clock for the island in 12 pieces incorporating sand and a future landscape in which the effects of climate change give rise to an underground world.

Women-led Nonprofits in Focus for Cal State LA Student Filmmakers

The Community Impact Media Spring 2023 semester foregrounded women-led nonprofits in Los Angeles, including Greetings from South Central, Nancy Evans Dance Theatre and The Collective Identity Mentoring. These nonprofits are dedicated to addressing causes like arts education, enhancing diversity within dance and fostering youth mentorship programs. Continuing the work of past semesters, students met with LA-based nonprofits to learn more about how they are serving their local community, while also learning the fundamentals of creating a documentary to ultimately premiere it to the public at the gallery.

Cindy Sherman’s Exhibition Inspires Workshop for Young Creatives

Celebrating ‘Cindy Sherman. 1977 – 1982,’ and as part of the gallery’s global learning initiatives, Hauser & Wirth Downtown Los Angeles hosted an exciting workshop on 19 November 2022, in collaboration with Las Fotos Project, an organization dedicated to elevating the voices of teenage girls and gender-expressive youth from communities of color through photography and mentorship.
