A conversation between Anri Sala, one of the most esteemed artists of his generation, and Massimiliano Gioni, Artistic Director of the New Museum. The pair discuss the trajectory of Sala’s art practice, his commitment to working with sound in relation to architecture and history, and his work for the exhibition 'Anri Sala: Answer Me', which includes multichannel audio and video installations that unfold across the Second, Third, and Fourth Floor galleries and create a symphonic experience specific to the New Museum.

Anri Sala’s sound, vision, and sculptural installations feel like they want to exist whether or not anyone is there to hear or see them. Like the entranced drummer in the work that lends the show its title (‘Answer Me,’ 2008), Sala is not concerned with conventional conversation.

'It's about reliving an experience.' Interview with the acclaimed Albanian-born video artist Anri Sala, who doesn’t trust language, and so increasingly uses music in his video art. Sala feels that language can be used to veil the truth. Thus he is preoccupied with music and rhythm as a form of communication among people: 'It produces a choreography instead of producing a verbal discourse.'
