Printed & Bound: Tunnel Books

Hauser & Wirth Publishers presents Printed & Bound a ten-part series of workshops exploring the ancient, durable, and creative processes of bookmaking led by artist Celine Lombardi from the Center for Book Arts. During the two hour workshops Lombardi will provide historical context and teach participants how to make numerous book structures.

For the second installment of this series participants will build on the skills learned folding accordions to make a simple playful tunnel book.

Celine Lombardi studied bookbinding at the North Bennet Street School in Boston, MA and through working with private bookbinders in New York City. Currently she is a core bookbinding instructor at the Center for Book Arts in Manhattan; is the Chair of the New York chapter of the Guild of Book Workers; and has her own private studio in Brooklyn, NY.

The Center for Book Arts promotes active explorations of both contemporary and traditional artistic practices related to the book as an art object. The Center seeks to facilitate communication between the book arts community and the larger spheres of contemporary visual and literary arts, while being a model organization locally, nationally, and internationally within the field. This is achieved through exhibitionsclassespublic programmingliterary presentationsopportunities for artists and writerspublications, and collecting.

The event is free and open to the public. Space is limited, RSVP is required.

The entrance to Hauser & Wirth Publishers Bookshop is at the ground floor. The bathroom is all-gender. There will be ample lighting with track and florencent lights.

Water, tea, coffee, beer, wine, and snacks will be available for purchase.

This event begins at 6 pm and ends at 9 pm.

Parking in the vicinity is free after 6pm. The closest MTA subway station is 23rd and 8th Ave off the C and E. This station is not wheelchair accessible. The closest wheelchair accessible stations are 1/2/3/A/C/E 34th Street-Penn Station and the 14 St A/C/E station with an elevator at northwest corner of 14th Street and Eighth Avenue.
