Avery Singer has created a special limited-edition print in support of The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, the renowned New York institution where she studied. Other Hauser & Wirth artists, including Firelei Báez, Leonardo Drew, Eva Hesse, Ambera Wellmann and Jack Whitten also attended The Cooper Union.
Developed in collaboration with Powerhouse Arts, the edition combines advanced printmaking techniques with hand intervention by the artist, making each impression unique. Titled ‘Art Student,’ the work centers on a figure that Singer has returned to repeatedly throughout her career in varying adaptations and contexts—a semi-autobiographical character through which she has explored questions of identity, authorship and artistic formation. The composition also demonstrates Singer’s signature use of SketchUp and animation software as tools for image construction, while intricate layering throughout the print creates nuanced passages of shadow, light and depth. The result is a work that reflects Singer’s distinctive visual language and longstanding commitment to art education.
This project is deeply personal to Singer, supporting an institution that played a formative role in her practice and career.
Net proceeds from the initiative will benefit Cooper Union student scholarships, helping sustain opportunities for future generations of artists, architects and engineers as part a plan to return to full-tuition scholarships for all undergraduate students.

About the Artist
Born in 1987 in New York, Avery Singer has emerged as a powerful contemporary voice whose work explores the possibilities in the convergence of painting and technology. Her highly distinctive oeuvre incorporates both autobiographical and fictional narratives, reflecting upon the art world today and the wider sweep of art history that she has inherited as a painter. Singer’s pioneering techniques are deployed to question the ways in which images and their distribution in our contemporary world, are increasingly informed by new media and technologies.
Singer graduated from Cooper Union in 2010.
