Family Studio Workshop: Disorienting Images

Sun 28 Jul 2019, 12 – 3 pm

Los Angeles

Find inspiration in the July Family Studio Workshop, which takes a cue from Guillermo Kuitca’s modification of theatre diagrams on view now in the South Gallery. Using mixed media, participants will create their own collages that dismantle images of order, like seating charts. By intermixing the original photos with colored paper, oil pastels, and card stock, participants will create collages that feature visual contrast that re-orient the original images.

This drop-in activity is free, however, reservations are recommended. Click here to register.

About ‘Guillermo Kuitca’

Hauser & Wirth is pleased to present the gallery’s first Los Angeles exhibition with acclaimed Argentine artist Guillermo Kuitca. The exhibition includes new pieces that build upon Kuitca’s long-standing involvement with the dramatic arts through an idiosyncratic integration of architectural features in two-dimensional space. ‘Retablo’ (2016), the sole sculptural work on view, imbues Kuitca’s signature geometric abstractions with spiritual undertones. Lit from within, this small, inaccessible, altar-like cove is ornamented by a panel painting covered with rhythmic slashes. Kuitca’s thicket of painterly marks is interrupted only by a perspectival road extending into the depths of the picture plane – an imaginary path leading to an unknowable realm.
