Join Hauser & Wirth Los Angeles and Manuela restaurant for their third salon, which will focus on the production of natural wines, specifically within the California landscape.
Winemakers Faith Armstrong-Foster of Onward + Farmstrong Wines and Marlen Porter of Amplify Wines will each share their unique knowledge and expertise in the making of natural wines, illuminating the rewards and challenges for independent winemakers in California today. This conversation will be moderated by Lou Amdur, revered owner of Lou Wine Shop in Los Feliz.
‘Salon Series in the Garden’ is a distinctive dining experience for creative thinkers interested in the culinary and visual arts. Each salon brings together noted guest speakers to explore various topics pertaining to art, architecture, nature, food, and music. The ideas shared in the conversation will then foster further discussion over a family-style meal by Chef Kris Tominaga.

Lou Amdur, Lou Wine Shop
Lou Wine Shop is a neighborhood wine merchant serving Los Feliz and the surrounding communities. We specialize in natural and unusual wines, with an emphasis on wines from France’s Loire Valley, Beaujolais, the Jura, the northwest and south of Spain, the northeast and the south of Italy, California and Oregon, Austria, and anywhere else winegrowers farm the land with respect and work wonders with the grape varieties that are historic and traditional to their regions. We offer thematic tastings—often with a visiting winemaker or wine importer—three days a week, typically on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturdays.
Faith Armstrong-Foster, Onward + Farmstrong Wines
As refreshing as the Pétillant Naturel she makes of Malvasia Bianca, many of the words used to describe Faith Armstrong Foster’s wine could be used to describe the winemaker herself. Honest, vibrant, unfiltered, true to her origins, bright, complex. To get to know Faith, taste one of her wines and then ask her a question about how it is made.
Marlen Porter, Amplify Wines
We are Cameron and Marlen Porter, a husband and wife team born and raised in Santa Barbara County. The exploration, and elevation, of our growing region has been our life’s work. We first bonded over a shared love for wine and music, and Amplify is a natural extension of this marriage between our two greatest passions. As winemakers, we seek to amplify the voice of site and enhance the most singular characteristics of a given vineyard, marrying a sense of place with a sense of style. We believe in: native yeast fermentations; neutral vessels for fermentation and aging; no additions of any kind except for minimum effective sulfur dioxide; and farming that seeks to establish a healthy ecosystem, enhancing and supporting the natural characteristics of a given place. We embrace the happy accident, letting intuition guide our hand, with our creative spirit and palates as our primary tools.
