Winter in Switzerland: Gstaad, St. Moritz, Zurich

21 December 2022

This winter, we celebrate major presentations by globally acclaimed artists in our native Switzerland. Against the unique backdrop of the snowy Swiss Alps, experience works by William Kentridge in Gstaad, a presentation of Isa Genzken and the Roth Bar in St. Moritz and David Smith in Zurich.

Gstaad This winter season, Hauser & Wirth brings the work of internationally renowned Johannesburg-based artist William Kentridge to Gstaad with a presentation across two locations titled ‘Singer Solo.’ The gallery has collaborated with the Gstaad Palace to present two large-scale sculptures by Kentridge, titled ‘Her’ (2022) and ‘Cape Silver’ (2018), which are in dialogue with one another in the gardens, marking the first time that the artist has shown outdoor sculpture in Switzerland. These works are larger versions of sculptures from Kentridge’s Glyph series, which are on view as part of a presentation at Tarmak22, alongside a new sound installation work, collage and tapestry.

Collaborating with the Ciné Theater in Gstaad, the CinemArt film series will once again take place this winter. The selection of films about contemporary art give unique insights into the work of important international and contemporary artists including William Kentridge, Eva Hesse, Dieter Roth and many more.

The Vieux Chalet, the gallery’s home in Gstaad since 2015, is open by appointment only. Email us if you would like to visit.

St. Moritz

Hauser & Wirth St. Moritz presents a fully-functional bar designed by Björn, Oddur and Einar Roth, son and grandsons of German-born Swiss artist Dieter Roth (1930 – 1998), alongside a rare self-portrait of the artist. The ‘Roth Bar’ activates the gallery’s ground floor space as a hub for socializing, music, readings and talks.

Also on view on the first floor of the gallery is ‘Isa Genzken. Inside and Out,’ a curated presentation of works by the celebrated German conceptual artist Isa Genzken, bringing together the artist’s early exposed concrete sculptures, social facades and later wall works.

ZurichDavid Smith. Four Sculptures’ is held in Hauser & Wirth’s glass-fronted exhibition space on Bahnhofstrasse 1, Zurich. The exhibition showcases four extraordinary, painted sculptures that represent major sculpture groups David Smith (1906 – 1965) made in the early 1960s.

Hauser & Wirth Zurich, Limmatstrasse presents ‘Erna Rosenstein’, the first major exhibition in Europe outside of Poland devoted to the iconoclastic artist (1913 – 2004).
