George Condo: In the Studio

  • Nov 30, 2021

This fall, we joined George Condo in his New York studio ahead of two major openings, his London exhibition, ‘Ideals of the Unfound Truth,’ and the largest survey of his career to date, at the Long Museum in Shanghai, ‘The Picture Gallery.’

‘My works embraces the everyday man, the everyday woman, the everyday person. Even the most beautiful person in the world will tell you: ‘Sometimes, when I look in the mirror, I just feel so horrible.’ And I’d rather capture the extremes of human nature. I need to be able to live with myself as an artist. I need to be able to live with who I am. Otherwise, I’m just a puppet. I’m a liar. I’m not a real artist. I’m a pawn on a chessboard being played by some greater power.’—George Condo
