Art Sounds: George Condo

  • Apr 1, 2020

For our ‘Art Sounds’ initiative, the celebrated American-Canadian violinist and partner of George Condo, Leila Josefowicz, responds to ‘Parallel Lives’. The work is part of the George Condo’s Drawings for Distanced Figures series, evocative of the experience of isolation during this unsettling period of social distance.

‘I feel this music called Lachen Verlernt by Esa-Pekka Salonen really suits Condo’s drawing Parallel Lives. The bold gestures and vivid imagery symbolize the power and courage we need to exist at this time.’⁣—Leila Josefowicz

Depicted in crayon, pencil and ink, overlapping figures have multiple viewpoints to reflect different emotions occurring simultaneously; fear, paranoia, claustrophobia, panic and distress. They are handled with a formal beauty, elegance and resolve as to provide an antidote. ⁣ Josefowicz is an internationally acclaimed violin soloist specializing in contemporary music, having premiered many compositions by prominent living composers.⁣ Specially recorded to lift spirits at this difficult time and raise funds for organisations on the frontline of the fight against Covid-19, our initiative is a partnership with New Generation Festival.⁣ Explore our online exhibition ‘Drawings for Distanced Figures’ and learn more about Leila Josefowicz.
