Make Opening reception: ‘Levelling Traditions’

Please join us to celebrate the opening of ‘Levelling Traditions’. Make’s second exhibition brings together nine artist-makers united by an intimate understanding of material. Each was invited to create original works to interpret themes of rural life and traditions, the land, the domestic and the intimate – a world in which materials, people, place and process have been so closely intertwined. The exhibition attests to the extraordinary skill of the maker and modern craftsmanship and our rich cultural heritage. Many works have been created using materials from the Makers’ local environment or sourced specifically from Somerset. We are delighted to be joined by folk singer Yvette Staelens at the opening reception. Staelens will perform the local folk songs, famously collected by Cecil Sharp in 1903, that inspired the works 'Somerset Coat Song' and 'Songs of Somerset' by Bonfield Block-Printers – bringing the strange, rich imagery in these works to life.

This is a free, drop-in event. All welcome.    This event takes place from 6 – 8 pm at Make Hauser & Wirth Somerset, 13 High Street, Bruton, Somerset BA10 0AB.
