Hauser & Wirth Los Angeles, a new center for contemporary art in LA’s Downtown Arts District, presents After 5, a series of free live music performances on Thursday nights, 5 – 9 pm. Take advantage of extended Thursday opening hours at the gallery to explore the exhibition, ‘Revolution in the Making: Abstract Sculpture by Women, 1947 – 2016,’ then meet friends in the central courtyard for an evening outdoors. Enjoy live bands and DJ sets, craft cocktails from the Spare Room Hollywood, savory Russian hand-pies from the Airstream kitchen of Pirozhki LA, and late shopping hours at D.A.P.‘s on-site bookstore ARTBOOK @ Hauser & Wirth. Thursday 14 July: Michael Trigilio aka starvelab Michael Trigilio is a multimedia artist living in San Diego. His work migrates among many media, exploring themes of narcissism, humor, science-fiction, and memory. His work in film, sound, performance, and tactical-media have been exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, San Diego CA, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) Los Angeles CA, and The Contemporary, Baltimore MD, among others. Trigilio’s collaborative public-media project, ‘Neighborhood Public Radio,’ was included in the 2008 Whitney Biennial and in residencies at Headlands Center for the Arts, Sausalito CA in 2007 and Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), Los Angeles CA in 2011. He has collaborated often with San Francisco’s Little Seismic Dance company, including a new score for their 10th Anniversary Season at CounterPulse, San Francisco CA in 2016. His recent short film, ‘Growing Up Death Star,’ (2015) premiered at the San Diego Underground Film Festival and was included in the Other Cinema program, San Francisco CA, and Anthology Film Archives, New York NY. Under the name ‘starvelab,’ he performs and records experimental electronic music with analog synthesis, drums and anxiety, releasing the tape ‘SUGAR’ via Rita Records in 2014. www.starve.org This event is free, but reservation is required.
