Somerset Autumn Workshop: Ipad Art

  • Fri 14 November 2014

The iPad is not a replacement for traditional media but a powerful and extremely useful addition to the artist’s kit box that challenges us to think about picture-making in an entirely different way. Colour, texture, gesture and form can all be expressed with the swipe of a finger, but to the beginner, the manifold creative opportunities the technology provides may be bewildering rather than liberating. While it is a relatively easy matter to use the iPad as an ersatz, battery-driven paintbox, this course introduces you to a variety of procedures and techniques that will help you get even more out of your digital art and encourage you to navigate your way around your touch-screen with confidence. This course, led by artist and tutor David Chandler, focuses on Brushes 3 the updated version of the app used by David Hockney. In the morning, we will look at the principles which govern the app and working from a simple still-life subject, learn to navigate our way around its basic functions. In the afternoon, we will consolidate our learning by using the same functions to create an imaginative landscape. This event has now sold out.
