We have partnered with local biodiversity charities and reforestation projects, including Somerset Wildlife Trust since 2014 and the Garden School Foundation since 2017. Our newest location in Menorca, an art center which opened in July 2021, supports The Menorca Preservation Fund, a Spanish Registered Foundation established in November 2017 with the aim of supporting local environmental initiatives.
The Garden School Foundation
The Garden School Foundation turns asphalt into ecosystems by providing a wide scope of in-depth garden-based education to youth at seven different Title I schools throughout Los Angeles. These programs aim to strengthen students’ connections between food justice, environmental stewardship, and community health. Since 2017, Hauser & Wirth Los Angeles has partnered with the Garden School Foundation to host monthly drop-in family workshops in the garden, featuring different themes and hands-on activities that engage gallery visitors of all ages.
Somerset Wildlife Trust
Somerset Wildlife Trust works to ensure Somerset remains one of the most habitat-diverse and wildlife-rich counties in Britain. With 20,000 members, it is one of the county’s leading conservation charities, dedicated to conserving a broad range of wild places and fragile habitats, and safeguarding the future of some of the United Kingdom’s most iconic and vulnerable wildlife. Somerset Wildlife Trust has worked closely with Hauser & Wirth Somerset since 2014 and was its first charity of the year. Since then, the gallery has continued to provide the Trust with a fundraising and education platform and announced it as a nominated charity again for 2021 – 22.
Durslade Community Garden
Hauser & Wirth Somerset has donated a plot of land to the local council as part of a community garden project. The Durslade Community Garden includes 30 new fruit trees and 25 raised beds, which are being used as allotments by members of the local community. Events have been held within the garden including a lesson in the art of pruning and mulching fruit trees by renowned gardener and local resident Charles Dowding.
Menorca is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and, in the interest of protecting the unique natural environment of its location, Hauser & Wirth Menorca supports Menorca Preservation, a non-profit which in 2021 has gathered funds for 17 local initiatives on sea preservation, sustainable agricultural development and renewable energies. Hauser & Wirth Menorca is a pilot organization to join the Plastic Free Menorca Commitment and fight against single-use plastic.
