In celebration of ‘Alberto Giacometti. Faces and Landscapes of Home’ at St. Moritz join us for a screening of ‘The Giacomettis (I Giacometti)’ a film by Susanna Fanzun.

The rugged Swiss mountain valley of Bregaglia has brought forth an entire dynasty of artists: the Giacomettis. Director Susanna Fanzun traces the footsteps of this extraordinary family. Alberto revolutionized the world of art with his slender sculptures. Before him, his father was an impressionist of the first hour. What is it about this valley that makes it the birthplace of so many artists?

About Alberto Giacometti
Alberto Giacometti (1901–1966) was a renowned Swiss sculptor, painter, and draftsman known for his iconic, elongated, and fragile figures representing human isolation and existentialism. Based largely in Paris, he transitioned from Surrealism to a distinct, highly textured figurative style. His work is considered a cornerstone of 20th-century art.

About Giovanni Giacometti
Giovanni Giacometti (1868–1933) was a prominent Swiss painter, recognized for bridging Post-Impressionism, Divisionism, and Expressionism through his vibrant, light-filled alpine landscapes. Born in Stampa, he trained in Munich and Paris, later finding inspiration in the Swiss Alps, influenced by his mentor, Giovanni Segantini. He is also noted as the father of artists Alberto and Diego Giacometti.

Diego Giacometti
Diego Giacometti (1902–1985) was a renowned Swiss sculptor and furniture designer, recognized for his distinctive bronze, animal-themed creations and for being the brother and collaborator of Alberto Giacometti. Born to Post-Impressionist painter Giovanni Giacometti, Diego moved to Paris in 1925 to assist Alberto, only emerging as an independent artist specializing in furniture after 1966.

About Susanna Fanzun
Born in 1963 in Scuol, Switzerland. Rhaeto-Romanic documentary filmmaker. She works as an independent film director, author and producer. In her films she combines local stories in the Alpine region with global themes. She finds the big connections in the small things of everyday life. After originally training as a primary school teacher, she began her professional career in journalism. She made her first documentary film in 1997 about silenced and dusty organs in Spain. From then on, she focussed her work on documentary film.
