Art Work – An Insight into the World of Textiles

Meet artists, academics and specialists to find out how they started their careers; just what can happen if you study textiles at university. Studying textiles at university may not necessarily mean that you will become an artist or designer and many people worry about the uncertainty of an art degree. However, art education opens doors to a multitude of careers; the art world is made up of many specialists. Some roles within the art world you may never have heard of. It raises questions such as: • What does a textile artist do? • What kinds of careers exist for those who study textiles? • Is postgraduate study necessary? • How will I make a living as a designer? • What are the most important things to learn from studying at university? This event is aimed at young people post 16 who are interested in finding out about career opportunities in art and design. Students are encouraged to bring their UCAS personal statements, there will be an opportunity to gain feedback on them from Kerry Curtis, Head of Fashion, Textiles and Three Dimensional Design at Bath Spa University. Other speakers include textile designer Eleanor Pritchard, artist Lucy Brown and sculptor Dorcas Casey. Students may attend with art teachers / tutors / parents / alone.
