Inside her exhibition at our Downtown Los Angeles gallery, Christina Quarles met with a group of young people from Stars: John Muir Girls Girl, Inner-City Arts Work of Art and Los Angeles County High School for the Arts to talk about her new body of work. ‘Christina Quarles. The Ground Glows Black’ presents work that reflects the acute sense of displacement the artist experienced in the wake of the historic Los Angeles wildfires that consumed her home in early 2025. Quarles is already admired internationally for the dexterity and assertiveness with which she manipulates paint. With the new works on view in ‘The Ground Glows Black,’ she pushes that expressive and physical power to new limits, conveying the impact of the fires on her inner landscape.

Frank Bowling’s exhibition ‘Collage’ is complemented by an academic program, the first of its kind for our Parisian gallery, driven by the shared passion for education and learning by Frank Bowling and Hauser & Wirth. This included a Study Day on Monday 28 April 2025 at the gallery, as well as workshops for school pupils from wider Paris regions.

On the occasion of his first exhibition ‘That First Rain in May’ at our West Hollywood gallery, artist Angel Otero met with students from Inner-City Arts to discuss his newest composition of work. Through a labor-intensive process of oil painting on plexiglass, then scraping the applied medium into ‘skins’ which he subsequently collages with wet paint onto canvas, Otero has developed a signature mode of expressive storytelling. The artist’s unique approach allows for an active exchange with the medium, inviting chance and unpredictability into his practice.

‘Curating Private Art Collections’ was a one-day symposium that invited five curators overseeing international private collections to Hauser & Wirth Somerset on occasion of the exhibition ‘Unconscious Landscape. Works from the Ursula Hauser Collection’.

The International Curatorial Residency 2019, ‘Curating Private Art Collections’, coincided with the exhibition ‘Unconscious Landscape. Works from the Ursula Hauser Collection’ and presented five curators who oversee international private collections. The programme culminated in a public symposium entitled ‘Curating Private Art Collections’.
