Past Exhibitions in Southampton

‘Jane Yang-D’Haene. earthbound’

19 August – 30 September 2023

This presentation of work by ceramic artist Jane Yang-D’Haene marked Make Hauser & Wirth Southampton’s first collaboration with a US-based artist maker. ‘Earthbound’ showcased Yang-D’Haene’s new body of ceramic works celebrating the artist’s journey of reconnection with her birthplace of South Korea. Drawing upon her early memories of the country’s landscape, Yang-D’Haene reinterprets a traditional form that has long fascinated her: the dalhangari or Moon Jar.

Selected by Make

5 November – 23 December 2022

This group exhibition featured an exquisite blend of functional and decorative works by Derek Wilson, Jochen Holz, Sue Paraskeva and Liam Lee. ‘Selected by Make’ explored the evolving spirit of contemporary making through utilitarian design and abstract forms. The presentation spotlighted each maker’s distinct approach and practice, representing the intersection of traditional and contemporary craft.

‘Erin Siena Jobs: Clay Is My Language’

1 – 15 October 2022

The exhibition featured a breadth of thrown and hand-built works in stoneware and porcelain highlighting Erin Siena Jobs’ exploration of form and glaze. An emerging maker, Jobs demonstrates a natural and intuitive relationship with her material. Her deeply personal and reflective pieces suggest a closeness to the clay and a desire to fully embrace and discover the unpredictability of the medium and the intricacies of glazes.
