This summer, a Book Club takes place on Illa del Rei, inspired by the literary connections and references within Roni Horn’s work. Following a guided tour of the exhibition, English professor Jara Sánchez Bennássar leads a discussion to share thoughts and ideas around the selected books. The Book Club initiative is part of our ongoing collaboration with Xarxa de Biblioteques de Menorca. ‘Poems and letters, 1-600’ (2023), Emily Dickinson, Sabina Editorial
This critical and annotated edition is made from the original manuscripts of Emily Dickinson, which have often been censored, manipulated and modified. Little-known during her life, she has since been regarded as one of the most important figures in American poetry. The exhibition in Menorca presents sculptures from the series ‘Key and Cue,’ which feature the first lines of poems by Emily Dickinson, to whom Horn has dedicated various bodies of work.

‘Agua Corriente. Poesía y Ensayos’ (2000), Anne Carson, Cielo Eléctrico
The poetry and prose collected in ‘Agua Corriente’ are a testament to the extraordinary imagination of Anne Carson. These pieces stretch the boundaries of language and literary form, while juxtaposing classical and modern traditions. Anne Carson collaborated with Roni Horn in ‘Wonderwater (Alice Offshore),’ a publication of four volumes containing texts written in response to the same selection of Horn’s titles and phrases. A meditation on the nature of life and time, Água Viva (1973) shows Lispector discovering a new means of writing about herself, more deeply transforming her individual experience into a universal poetry. In a body of work as emotionally powerful, formally innovative, and philosophically profound as Clarice Lispector’s, Água Viva stands out as a particular triumph. Roni Horn has created works inspired by Clarice Lispector and water, which is an enduring motif in Horn’s work. The book is in Catalan and the book club will take place in Catalan.
