We are proud to announce a three-year partnership with Robert Gordon University and Gray’s School of Art to support free Mobile Art School workshops in rural communities across northeast Scotland. Launching on Thursday 12 March 2026, the Mobile Art School joined forces with artist Thomas J Price, to visit Braemar Primary School at St. Margaret’s Church and Braemar Kirk.
The Mobile Art School is an outreach project aimed at connecting and empowering communities across Aberdeen and beyond to improve awareness and understanding of the creative industries. This new partnership will allow the team at Gray’s School of Art to extend their reach and incorporate practicing artists into high impact workshops alongside the university faculty, students and recent graduates. Participants will be given the opportunity to experience and explore the personal and social enrichment that creative learning presents—not just within arts careers but as a powerful, transformative and essential part of everyday life.
Pupils of Braemar Primary School had access to a day of creative workshops with the Mobile Art School and Thomas J Price, followed by an art procession from St. Margaret’s to Braemar Kirk, where pupils paraded their artwork through the village before creating a sculptural installation in the Kirk. A celebration with the local community provided an opportunity to meet the artist and learn more about the Mobile Art School project, with light refreshments provided by the Fife Arms. The pupils’ artworks will be on display at Braemar Kirk from 13 - 15 March, 12–5 pm.
‘This three-year partnership with Hauser & Wirth is incredibly exciting,’ says Daniel Sutherland, Associate Dean for Economic, Social and Cultural Development at Gray’s School of Art. ‘It gives Gray’s School of Art an opportunity to take our practices outside their traditional settings and into the communities on our doorstep. We hope the Mobile Art School activities will be transformational as we look to inspire the next generation of creatives beyond London and across the UK.’
Taking expertise and resources outside the walls of Gray’s School of Art, the custom-built Mobile Art School vehicle is equipped with state-of-the-art creative tools including: 10 Oculus Quests (VR headsets), laser cutting, 3D printing / 3D scanning, mobile dark room, CNC routing, vinyl cutting, vacuum forming, interactive electronics (Littlebits), clay modelling tools, raku kiln, screen printing facilities, intaglio/etching press, model making (hot wire cutting and hand tools), inflatable project facilities and jewellery casting facilities.
