“I am sick of thinking. I am sick and tired of thinking. I want my work to be more like a vomit than a rumination. I just want to go ‘Blah!’. Or ‘Woosh!’” Martin Creed was awarded the prestigious Turner Prize in 2001 for his “Work No. 227: The lights going on and off“. He took part in last year’s Biennale de Lyon and a major solo exhibition of his work was held in Bern’s Kunsthalle in 2003. Both London’s Tate Modern and New York’s Museum of Modern Art have recently included some of his important works in their collections. He will be displaying a series of new works in his first exhibition at Hauser & Wirth Zurich. “I am trying to get from the inside out.” All quotations by Martin Creed; from The Roland Penrose Memorial Lecture given at The National Gallery, London, in November, 2005

‘Creed es un artista social; la verdadera magia de su obra reside en la forma en que interactúa con las personas y los lugares.’
—Jonathan Jones, ‘Martin Creed’s stairway to heaven,’ en The Guardian, Londres, UK, 1 de agosto de 2011, ill. (on Work No. 1059)
