The family of artist Günther Förg (1952–2013) are pleased to announce the launch of the Günther Förg Archive. The aim of the archive is to permanently preserve Förg’s work, conduct academic research surrounding it and make it accessible to future generations through a comprehensive catalogue raisonné.
Günther Förg is one of the most important German artists of his generation, who’s diverse oeuvre encompasses painting, sculpture, photography and graphic art. ‘My husband was an extremely prolific artist,’ says Ika Huber. ‘His work is characterized by a critical examination of modern art and its continuous development.’

After the artist’s death in 2013, his family began to sift through and organize his extensive estate. ‘During this work, the decision was made to preserve my father’s important work for future generations,’ says Cécile Huber, explaining the idea behind the archive and catalogue raisonné.
During his lifetime, Günther Förg compiled catalogues of his work and published parts of them. However, as these were incomplete or outdated, the family began systematically working on their own catalogue raisonné in 2018.

The newly established archive now brings together all the preliminary work done to date. ‘Our goal is to create a reliable overview of the artist's oeuvre and thus enable new perspectives,’ says Cécile Huber. In addition to work data, the catalogue raisonné will contain high-quality illustrations, verified provenance information and links to relevant literature and archive material—published gradually over the coming years online.
Created to preserve Förg’s legacy, the archive will support ongoing research and gradually publish a comprehensive catalogue raisonné.
