The XXVII edition of the Pino Pascali Prize has been awarded to Roberto Cuoghi, who will inaugurate his solo exhibition on 18 October 2025 at 7.00 pm (CET) at the Fondazione Pino Pascali in Polignano a Mare, Italy.

‘Roberto Cuoghi’s work is centered on the relationship between the individual and society, making it particularly relevant today and worthy of recognition for fostering a dialogue between art and socio-anthropological aspects,’ the jury explains. ‘His research revolves around the theme of metamorphosis, explored through multiple artistic languages—sculpture, painting, sound, installation. His multidisciplinary practice and ability to shift across transformations reflect an affinity with the work of Pino Pascali.’

Established in 1969 by Pascali’s parents after the artist’s sudden death in 1968, and relaunched in 1998, the Prize has honored leading figures in contemporary art.

Born in Modena in 1973, Cuoghi has established a prominent position on the international stage. His career milestones include his participation in the 57th Venice Biennale in the Italian Pavilion Il Mondo Magico, curated by Cecilia Alemani, with the work Imitazione di Cristo – Il Mondo Magico (alongside Giorgio Andreotta Calò and Adelita Husni-Bey), as well as major exhibitions at the Fridericianum in Kassel and the retrospective Perla Pollina 1996 – 2016, presented between the Centre d’Art Contemporain in Geneva and Museo Madre in Naples.

Cuoghi’s practice is unique: uninfluenced by direct models, it resists classification within any single artistic genre. His works of the past two decades are united by a rigorous focus on process: he invents new techniques and methodologies for each project, achieving absolute creative control and the highest degree of craftsmanship. Each new body of work is radically distinct from the previous one, as the artist moves seamlessly across mediums, mastering form without being defined by a single style. ‘One of the most radical artists of his generation,’ writes curator Alessandro Rabottini, ‘Cuoghi defies easy categorization.’

The solo exhibition at Fondazione Pino Pascali, organized in collaboration with the galleries Chantal Crousel and Hauser & Wirth, will present Cuoghi’s research and the themes that have defined his work over the past decade.
