Ida Applebroog: The Ethics of Desire

Accompanying the show at Hauser & Wirth in New York from May through July 2015, this publication features a selection of the ultrachrome ink-on-mylar works from the exhibition. Referencing Plato’s philosophical and ethical exploration of the many questions raised by our desires and the ways in which they shape our lives, Applebroog’s large-scale nudes engage the dramatic aesthetics of the catwalk while introducing a socio-psychological tension. The book’s front and back cover are imprinted with the names of philosophers who have reflected on the topic that gives the show and the publication their title.
