Guillermo Kuitca: No Tomorrow

“No Tomorrow could be the perfect title for the recent work of Guillermo Kuitca. Like a painting within a painting, his canvases enact a restaging of modes of representation. From the beginning there has always been an intellectual muscularity to Kuitca’s broad range of visual and literary references, which move fluidly and easily from Eisenstein to cartography, Fontana to Bausch, architecture to Wagner. Motifs culled from disparate fields of knowledge are given a visual correlative and yoked together or overlaid on top of each other. Each new body of work seems to flow out of the previous series and point to the next one-as in Denon’s novella, where each deception leads to another deception, each liaison is folded into another liaison.”
– Philip Larratt-Smith
