For over a decade, Hauser & Wirth has worked closely with Louise Bourgeois and the Louise Bourgeois Studio to produce a range of publications, from exhibition catalogues to artist’s books. This title re-published as a trade edition with Hatje Cantz follows the esteemed reception of the limited edition artist’s book, ‘Louise Bourgeois. L’araignée et les tapisseries’ from Hauser & Wirth in 2014. Louise Bourgeois’s tapestry and needlepoint works are reproduced together with photographs and facsimile documents from the Bourgeois family archive. Giving a full context of the artist’s use of these materials, excerpts from the artist’s psychoanalytical writings and diaries reveal the symbolic value of reparation, restoration and redemption, which lay behind this body of work. This rare and special limited edition publication sheds light on the processes of weaving, stitching and repairing that are integral to the understanding of Bourgeois’s important late works.
