CinemArt is a film series presented by Hauser & Wirth in collaboration with Arthouse Zürich. A cinematic journey into the art world, this series offers unique views into the lives and work of significant international artists, including a selection connected to Hauser & Wirth’s programme. The selected documentaries feature artists including Laurie Anderson, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Philip Guston, Eva Hesse, Jenny Holzer, Josephsohn, Piero Manzoni, Gerhard Richter, Dieter Roth, and Roman Signer.

Sara Driver’s documentary explores the pre-fame years of celebrated American artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, and how New York City, its people, and constantly shifting arts culture of the late 1970s and 1980s shaped Basquiat’s inimitable vision. To tell this story, Driver worked closely and collaboratively with her friends and other artists who emerged from that scene: Nan Goldin, Jim Jarmusch, James Nares, Fab Five Freddy, Lee Quinones, Luc Sante and many others.
