For Shanghai Art Week, Hauser & Wirth Publishers will present a pop-up bookshop located within Modern Eye, the flagship bookstore operated by Modern Media Group in the Huang Pu district in central Shanghai. It will showcase 25 iconic titles that represent the breadth of the Hauser & Wirth Publishers backlist, which in its entirety encompasses over 100 publications created since 1992, including monographs, artist books and exhibition catalogues.
The unique architectural construction of the pop-up takes its inspiration from one of the original 18th-century farm buildings that comprise Hauser & Wirth Somerset, the Granary Shed. Traditionally used to store grain reaped from the land, and to protect it from the elements, the Granary Shed concept at Modern Eye has been reinterpreted and named ‘Yi Cang’, which roughly translates as ‘The Store of Art’.
On the occasion of their joint anniversaries, Hauser & Wirth and Modern Media Group are launching a celebratory publication exploring the trajectory of both companies since their inception in 1992. Co-editied by Robin Peckham, Chief Editor of LEAP Magazine and Culture Director of NOWNESS at Modern Media Group, and Michaela Unterdörfer, Chief Editor of Hauser & Wirth Publishers, the publication will be produced in a limited edition of 2,500 copies, and will be available from the Modern Eye bookstore.
