Artist’s Choice: Summer Film Series continues on Wednesday 26 July with David Lynch’s ‘Lost Highway’ (1997) selected by Mary Heilmann. This cult film noir follows a Los Angeles saxophonist who, after being convicted of murdering his wife, mysteriously transforms into a young mechanic and is released to lead a new life.
Artist’s Choice: Summer Film Series is a program of free evening film screenings that will take place on the newly renovated rooftop of the gallery’s West 22nd Street location in June and July. With films selected by New York-based gallery artists Rita Ackermann, Mary Heilmann, Matthew Day Jackson, Rashid Johnson, and Jack Whitten, Summer Film Series will present a vibrant collection of cinematic works that illustrate the many ways in which the moving image provides a rich source of inspiration for visual artists.
Offering dramatic views of New York’s West Chelsea Arts District and the Hudson River, Hauser & Wirth’s rooftop will feature works by a diverse group of artists from the gallery’s roster, including a special installation of Martin Creed’s ‘Work No. 2198,’ selected by the artist for the space.
Roof is open at 6 PM. Drinks and food will be available from the Roth Bar for purchase.
While screenings are free, advanced booking is essential due to limited seating. Guests are encouraged to bring their own blankets.
