Wood Carving and Wassailing at Make Hauser & Wirth Somerset

  • Sat 19 January 2019
  • 10 am – 4 pm

Join us at Make Hauser & Wirth Somerset for live making in the gallery with green wood carver, Mark Reddy. Reddy’s carved spoons and vessels are on display in the gallery as part of Make’s second exhibition ‘Levelling Traditions’. Skilfully working with wood that is cut and foraged locally from native Somerset trees, Reddy utilises the innate character inherent in his materials. His spoons and vessels are carved from green wood using traditional tools: the hand axe, the maul, the froe, and the crook knife. The day will end with a performance by Yvette Staelens who will sing traditional Somerset and wassailing folk songs. Join us at 3 pm as we enjoy the performance with a cup of mulled Somerset cider.   10 am – 3 pm : Wood carving demonstrations by Mark Reddy 3 pm – 4 pm : Wassailing performance by Yvette Staelens, with a cup of mulled Somerset cider   This is a free, drop-in event at Make Hauser & Wirth Somerset, 13 High Street, Bruton, Somerset BA10 0AB.
