Hauser & Wirth Publishers announced today that it will open a publishing office and bookshop in New York City’s West Chelsea Arts District, at 548 West 22nd Street, also the new home of international modern and contemporary gallery Hauser & Wirth. This location has a rich heritage in art publishing as it hosted Printed Matter Inc.’s first New York Art Book Fair, over a decade ago in 2005, and was formerly the home of Dia:Chelsea. Books and publishing have played a central role in the life of Hauser & Wirth since its founding, in 1992, and establishing a publishing office and bookshop in New York speaks to this deep commitment.
The Hauser & Wirth Publishers’ site in New York will be overseen by Diana Murphy, a publisher and editor with decades of experience in fine illustrated book publishing. She joins Hauser & Wirth from her position as Co Publisher of Metropolis Book; previously, she served as an independent publishing consultant and as Senior Editor at Harry N. Abrams. Murphy states: ‘I have long admired the books that Hauser & Wirth publishes and am delighted to join this organization. With their rigorous approach to scholarship, detailed photography, and thoughtful craftsmanship, Hauser & Wirth Publishers’ books are second to none.’
