    Hauser & Wirth is one of the world’s leading contemporary art galleries with offices in Zurich, London, Somerset, New York and soon, Los Angeles.

    Hauser Wirth & Schimmel, located in a historic 100,000 square foot flour mill complex in the city’s burgeoning downtown Arts District, will open to the public in March 2016. The gallery will transform the site’s sprawling collection of late 19th and early 20th century buildings and outdoor spaces into a dynamic multi-disciplinary arts center. The new venue will offer innovative exhibitions, museum-caliber amenities, and a robust schedule of public programs that contextualize the art on view, drawing upon, illuminating, and contributing to the urban culture of Los Angeles.

    We are seeking an experienced accounting professional to join our team in Los Angeles, starting January 2016.

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Control and manage all bank relationships and accounts
    • Update and reconcile all financial records and bank accounts
    • Maintain compliance with GAAP and with Federal, State and Local regulatory laws
    • Monitor and ensure compliance with financial/accounting procedures, policies and internal controls
    • Responsible for all day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting functions including foreign and domestic banking transactions and data entry for accounts payable, accounts receivable, general journal
    • Prepare quarterly and annual closing and detailed report package for Parent and Management
    • Coordinate regular reconciliation of all inter-company transactions with other gallery locations
    • Oversee and coordinate the preparation of annual gallery budgets and forecasts and initiate ongoing dialogue with Management re: cost variances and forecast revisions
    • Liaise with and assist outside accountants in the preparation and issuance of annual GAAP reviewed financial statements and in the preparation and filing of Federal, State and Local income tax returns
    • Liaise with outside counsel on legal matters as necessary
    • Liaise with HR consultants on employee legal and regulatory issues
    • Experienced with legal contracts including leases, consignment agreements, bills of sale
    • Administer all payroll-related functions
    • Administer all employee benefits (health insurance, 401(k), etc) including annual renewals, as necessary, and coordination of enrollment and termination
    • Preparation and filing of California sales and use tax returns
    • Assist in upcoming upgrade of financial systems software and applications


    • B.S. in accounting and MBA or CPA degree with previous gallery experience preferred
    • Minimum of 5-7 years experience in a senior level financial management role
    • Proficient in Apple OSX Operating System, MS Excel and accounting software
    • Extensive knowledge of California sales tax regulations
    • Extensive knowledge of Federal and State employment law
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Foreign language, esp. German is a plus
    • Hands on approach
    • Must be detail and goal oriented
    • Must be a self-starter who can determine what needs to be done rather than wait for direction.

    Based in our Somerset gallery we are looking for an enthusiastic, pro-active, organised and personable individual to join us as an Intern.

    Hauser & Wirth Somerset is a pioneering world-class gallery and multi-purpose arts centre, which acts as a destination for experiencing art, architecture and the remarkable Somerset landscape through new and innovative exhibitions of contemporary art. Centred around a core belief in conservation, education and sustainability, Hauser & Wirth Somerset offers a wide variety of special events including talks, seminars, workshops and screenings, as well as an extensive learning programme for local schools, young people and families. Hauser & Wirth Somerset supports an immersive artist-in-residence programme, encouraging artists to benefit from the idyllic surroundings and to integrate with the local community. The centre also provides resources including a bookshop and dedicated learning room.

    An internship at Hauser & Wirth Somerset is a full-time position undertaken for a period of six months. During this time you will be assigned a broad range of tasks that ensure you gain an understanding of how Hauser & Wirth Somerset operates.

    Tasks will include, but not be limited to:

    • Supporting the Front of House with general gallery duties, mail outs, archiving, post and private views
    • Greeting and providing information to visitors about current exhibitions, events, the history of Durslade Farm, the architecture, the garden and all aspects of the gallery
    • Supervising the gallery and public spaces, ensuring they are presented to the highest standards at all times
    • Assisting with the development, installation and delivery of exhibitions and events
    • Assisting with the running of the gallery bookshop, making sure it is presented to the highest standard at all times
    • Assisting with research


    • A graduate of either a BA or MA in Fine Art, Art History or a related subject, or equivalent experience
    • A keen interest in all aspects of gallery work, such as administration, press, education, development of exhibitions and events
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Organised with an ability to prioritise
    • Computer literate
    • Candidate should be meticulous with attention to detail
    • Proactive attitude
